The college football bowl season is upon us and it is one of the most popular times of the year for sports bettors and football fans. With so many games on the schedule it is easy to see why sports bettors get giddy this time of year. Handicapping a bowl game is different than handicapping a regular college football game and it is important to know the differences. Here are a few things to take into account when betting on college football bowl games.Distractions: This time of year can provide plenty of distractions for a collegefootball team Just ask the Cincinnati Bearcats. Brian Kelly took off toget a head coaching spot in South Bendand left his undefeated Bearcats with an interim coach for the Sugar Bowlagainst Florida. For example early in the seasonthe University of CentralFlorida will take on the Scarlet Knights ofRutgers in the St Petersburg Bowl. This game is played in Floridaand that is much closer to UCF than New Jerseywhere Rutgers plays home games.
It is important toknow what teams have fans that travel well and where they play to see whatkind of fan base they will have.Motivationvs. Disappointment: Many teams in college football set some lofty goals asthe season started yet they have fallen on hard times and now may beplaying in a lesser known bowl game. Urban Meyer is excellent at motivating his kids but otherbowl teams dont have that luxury in a head coach. Look for teams playingin an undesirable location or in a lesser bowl game then they had hoped. This works for teams that barley made a bowl game with a 6-6 record. Some ofthese teams were lucky to get in any bowl game and they are just thrilledto be here. These are just a few of the things that a sports bettor can look at when trying to be on the winning side of a college football bowl game. Use these tips combined with a sound handicapping method and it could pay off during the bowl season! Happy Hunting! Matt
